Shewula Mountain Camp

Shewula Mountain Camp has seven comfortable traditional-style huts, a camping ground, ablution facilities, a kitchen-dining area and a new conference facility. Hosted by trained community members the camp offers accommodation, meals and guided cultural and nature tours. Visitors have the choice of using self-catering facilities, although most choose to order camp-prepared traditional meals. The camp has a daily set menu which features fresh fruit, vegetables and chicken all of which is sourced from neighbouring families.

Arranged in a manner similar to traditional homestead, the camp has a shared ablution facility with flush toilets and hot water showers. Four rooms are family-style with a double-bed and two bunk beds, whilst the remaining three are private rooms with en-suite ablutions.

Cooking is possible on gas stoves or on the open fire. Pots, pans and eating utensils are provided. With paraffin lanterns and candles to light the darkness of night, this romantic mountaintop setting is an ideal place to experience the rural life of Africa and to marvel at the beauty of Swaziland's natural environment.

These units are built from local stone and feature traditional cone-shaped rondavel roofs. The individual ablution facilities for these units have been cleverly crafted to include eye-level access to one of Shewula's greatest assets - its 100km view across Swaziland.

These rooms do not have electrical fittings with all lighting provided by paraffin lantern. Self-catering facilities are provided in the central communal kitchen and sitting area.

Each of the four huts can sleep up to six persons, with a double bed and two bunk beds. Rates are charged on a per person basis.  For large groups these huts serve as dormitories. Bedding is provided.

There is a unisex shared ablution unit nearby with four flush toliets and four hot water showers. The ablution facility features a stunning view out over the surrounding landscape.

Tents can be set up in designated areas near to the the hutted units. 4x4's with rooftop tents can also pull-up very close to the camp. There is a large shared ablution unit nearby with flush toilets and hot water showers. The camp kitchen can be used for most self-catering needs. 

Hot tip from your local connection: Although self-catering is possible, we recommend that you order meals through the camp, as this is a great way to futher benefit the community by your stay.
