Taste of Swaziland Tour (full day)

  • Book Now

The Swazi Trails Taste of Swaziland tour is a distinctly different tour. It is alive living and changing from day to day. This tour is not directed from the office, its led from the field.  Where you go and what you decide do is up to you and your private driver-guide. This tour is constantly tailor-made to meet specific requests on a daily basis. This is the guided tour to book when want to accessa once-off or annual occasion like a national ceremony, a traditional wedding or on lucky occasions a public appearances by His Majesty the King.

You will find your Swazi Trails guide resourceful and enthusiastic.  He or she will be passionate about doing something a little different and exploring off-the-beaten track.

If you are interested in bathing in a hot spring with locals, need to track down a relative in a long-forgotten cemetery or simply want to explore on-of-a-kind photographic opportunities then this is the way to do it.

Itinerary
The guide's brief is to provide as many interesting and interactive experiences as possible:

Buy fruit, muffin or mielie-bead snacks at a local market, taste Swazi food, taste Swazi beer or Maganu (Marula wine in season), visit Swazi homesteads, see how food is prepared in homesteads and lend a hand to mill the staple maizemeal, collect water from the river, herd cattle or goats with Swazi herd boys, till fields with a span of oxen, weed maize fields, attend a church service (Sundays), watch a local soccer match, listen in on a community meeting (mostly Saturdays), visit a Swazi school, watch the daily tasks of washing clothing in the river... and experioence Swaziland as it happens every day.

Not everything mentioned above is possible to do in day, but the idea is to make use of as many ad hoc opportunities for cultural interaction as possible. Experiences will differ from tour to tour as many different homesteads are visited on a random basis. Experiences will also vary with the day of the week and the season of year. On Sundays, most people are attending church and there is little commercial or agricultural activity. In spring, fields are being ploughed, summer is planting and then weeding season and after harvesting in autumn there is little activity in the fields until the following spring. The guide will use his or her discretion on where to go and at what time in the day.  On overcast or cold days, he may choose options that are more suitable, whilst on hot summer days he will keep walking to a minimum.
