Booking notes

This is a popular option - we advise booking online in advance.

Swaziland-based tour and adventure operators Swazi Trails offer two standard half-day bicycle trails - the Mountain-bike Safari and the Mountain-bike Culture Trail . This particular Mountain Biking Culture Safari Combo simply combines these two popular outings into a one-day adventure that is worth every minute... particularly as it comes at a discounted rate.

Your local Swazi guide will take you on a relaxed, meandering trail through the Ezulwini Valley, Lobamba, Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary and Mantenga Nature Reserve areas. Spares, pumps and a first aid kit are carried and cycling helmets are provided. Our bikes are 21-speed MTB's, with the available gears being useful to cover the undulating route.

Although this trail can cover from 20 to 30km in distance it is generally not strenuous and with the cycling spread out across the day and punctuated by regular stops at points of interest, this adventure is manageable by almost anyone who can ride a bicycle. There is no fixed route and your guide will be able to customise the ride to allow for weather, differences in fitness and special interest requests.

Read our itineray description below, browse our photo gallery tab above or have a quick look at our short YouTube video under the Adventure Activities Category .  This is low-impact, environmentally-friendly tourism at its best - if you've already spent enough time in a car - try this for a healthy alternative.

The Mountain Biking Culture Safari Combo - full day

09h00 - we meet at Mantenga Craft & Lifestyle Centre in Ezulwini. Test bikes, adjust seats, fit helmets and generally get ready to roll.

09h15 - 10h15 - a relaxed ride through Lobamba Village and past the the Queen Mother's Residence to the Sangweni Entrance Gate of nearby Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary.

10h15 - 12h30 - game-viewing dirt tracks, special cycle trails through the trees, single-track excitement and plenty game-viewing.  Zebras, wildebeest, blesbok, warthogs, nyala, kudu, waterbuck, the rare roan antelope, hippo and crocodiles are all regularly spotted at close proximity. Optional swim in the camp pool or warm spring.

12h30 - lunch. Lunch is a self-catering affair and entirely flexible. Grab a bite to eat at the Hippo Haunt Restaurant at Mlilwane, or eat with the locals at Lobamba Village, or even stop at a choice of restaurants in Ezulwini. Lunch costs are for own account and not inclusive in the tour.

14h00 - after a few stops in Lobamba to soak up typical local culture, its time to hit Mantenga Nature Reserve, home to the Swazi Cultural Village - a living museum. 16h30 Its just a short ride back to Mantenga now...to wrap up a fun-filled day.
